We are in the heart of the historic center of Milan, in the famous Porta Romana district, near Piazza Duomo. This is a spacious, sunny penthouse overlooking the Madonnina, the most famous landmark in Milan, which can be seen from anywhere inside the apartment.
The homeowner wanted to create an enjoyable outdoor space that would be protected from the elements. They turned to KE Store 3s Milano S.r.l. – a well-known local resource for high-impact outdoor projects. KE Store designers suggested two products from the KE range: the Kolibrie shade sail and the Isola 3 retractable roof pergola.
A custom-made Kolibrie sail was installed in the corner of the terrace. Lightweight and visually bright and impactful, the wall-mounted Kolibrie is the perfect solution to enjoy spectacular vistas without obstacles. Made with nautical-inspired materials such as stainless-steel hardware and extremely durable Dacron, Kolibrie is ideal for creating large areas of shade with minimal impact on the surrounding architecture.
KE is well known for expertly creating custom solutions as needed. In this case, 3s Milano designed a custom wall bracket that allowed the support pole to reach the floor and be anchored with structural adhesive, achieving the customer’s desired results.
On the opposite side of the large terrace, two ISOLA 3 pergolas were installed, creating a beautiful, shaded outdoor space, perfect for dining and entertaining family and friends while enjoying the incomparable view.
Isola 3 stands out for its characteristic, lowered-arch roof, which helps to reduce its overall dimensions and blend beautifully with virtually any architectural style. This pergola can be installed in two different ways – either wall-mounted or free-standing. Thanks to the advanced design of its integrated frame rail system, Isola 3 can readily accommodate any combination of motorized side screens, curtains or sliding glass enclosures. Isola 3 can be highly customized with your choice of more than 500 different fabrics to accommodate any use, climate, or individual creative vision.
A fully integrated, dimmable LED lighting system makes Isola 3 even more impressive at night, providing a unique ambiance while increasing safety and comfort. Complete automation is available with rain and sun sensors that allow for mobile app-control of all pergola features, even when you’re not there.
The plants on the terrace are cared for by the social cooperative of the Bollate prison – Cascina Bollate – founded and chaired by Susanna Magistretti – which helps with the reintegration of former prisoners into the workplace.
